What We Believe:
The South 14th Street church of Christ is a family of believers that seeks to participate more fully in God’s mission in Leesburg, FL and the surrounding area, while embodying God’s goodness, grace and love as we grow towards spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness.
As a Bible-centered community of faith, we believe that God is Trinity: Father, Son and Spirit (3 persons in one being).
We believe that Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that we might be equipped for every good work.
Following the biblical story, we believe that God has created all that exists and sustains creation by his indwelling Spirit.
We believe that God creates humans in his image, breathing in us life and invites us into relationship and participation in God’s loving nature.
But, we believe that having been created in God’s image and invited to participate in God’s life, tragically we often choose or are led to believe that fullness of life is possible by our own means and so, falling away from relationship with God, we find ourselves in spiritual darkness and death.
Yet, we believe that because of his steadfast love and faithfulness, God redeems us and restores our relationship with him.
We believe that the fullness of God’s character and mission in the world is most perfectly revealed in Jesus Christ: his birth, life, ministry, death and resurrection.
We believe that in and through Christ’s birth, ministry, death and resurrection we have been atoned for and fully reconciled to our Creator.
We believe that through faith and water baptism, believers participate in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for remission or death to sin and resurrection to new life.
We believe that the Spirit sustains and nurtures our spiritual growth as we join with other Christians around the Lord’s Table sharing the Lord’s Supper each Sunday.
We believe that the church is Christ’s Body and is empowered by the Holy Spirit to participate in Christ’s ministry of reconciliation on behalf of the world.
We believe that through practicing and embodying love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, we participate in our continued salvation and abundant life.
We believe that Christ will come again and put to “rights” all “wrongs” (the cause and effects of evil and sin) and we hopefully await our Lord and the fullness of God’s coming Kingdom.
